Health Care Reform Contributes to Women's Economic Security - Women's Foundation California

Did you know that women from Texas to Idaho routinely pay up to 50% more for health insurance than their male counterparts? This disparity means that annually women in the U.S. pay $1 billion more than men for basic health care. And it is just one of the discriminatory practices that would be outlawed once the Affordable Care Act (i.e., health care reform) goes into effect in 2014.

Help us make sure that women across the country get the health care they need. Calling All Women: Text WOMEN to 50555 to donate $10 to women’s funds nationwide. The Women’s Foundation of California is proud to be one of the participating funds.

The Ms. Foundation is joining women across the country – like national grant partner Raising Women’s Voices for the Health Care We Need, currently in Washington, D.C. speaking out to protect the law – who are fighting to end gender discrimination in health care coverage. Ms. is also partnering with local groups as states move forward to implement the law on the ground. They’re working to realize the tremendous benefits of health care reform and improve women’s access to affordable insurance and quality health care—including reproductive health. This week the Supreme Court is hearing arguments on the constitutionality of the law and certain aspects of its provisions. If struck down, women will continue to struggle to cover their most basic health concerns. We cannot let this happen. ACA is good for women; it has made discriminatory pricing illegal, mandated contraception coverage without co-pays and, eliminated pregnancy as a “pre-existing” condition.

Let’s help make health care coverage a reality for all women. Join us. Text WOMEN to 50555 to donate $10. Your $10 will send a message of strength and help women nationwide.
