Gender Justice and Women’s Leadership in the Climate Justice Movement: A Roundtable Discussion

by Nicola

Women are at the forefront of cutting-edge climate justice movement work at the local level and across California, nationally, and globally. Yet, women are disproportionately impacted by the effects of and bare unique burdens from climate change. As climate change continues to intensify natural hazards, increase gender and wealth equities, and create political, environmental, and social instabilities, supporting frontline movement building to support local power is essential to fostering solutions to the crisis. Philanthropy can play a committed, strategic role to address these inequities to support more just, sustainable, and equitable communities.

The California Gender Justice Funders Network is pleased to host an informal roundtable discussion over lunch. We’ll dive into climate change as it relates to gender justice, women’s leadership, and climate justice. We hope you’ll join us, field leaders, Indigenous communities, advocates, and the philanthropic community to:

  • Foster a greater understanding at the intersection of climate change and gender justice and to lift up women’s leadership in the climate justice movement
  • Showcase key issues, challenges, strategies, and opportunities as well as field leaders, organizations and collaborations in California
  • Build relationships among climate justice field leaders, Indigenous communities, advocates and the funding community
  • Explore possible next steps
  • Invited organizations: Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network, Idle No More Bay Area, Climate Justice Alliance, PODER, Sogorea Te Land Trust, CultureStrike, Urban Tilth, Greenpeace, Fire Drill Fridays, Asian Pacific Environmental Network, California Environmental Justice Alliance and others.
