Women’s Policy Institute (WPI)

Social change: Not for the faint of heart. The perfect job for a community leader.

Fellows

More effective than a single lobby group, our Women’s Policy Institute (WPI) amplifies the voices of women and trans folks throughout the state, training them to be policy advocates and champions for gender justice. WPI includes two year-long programs in which community-based leaders of diverse backgrounds and experiences are paired with mentors and work in teams to advocate for and implement important policy projects at the state and at the county levels.

To date, we’ve trained nearly 450 advocates, and these brilliant leaders have moved significant policy including helping to pass over 32 state laws that have improved the health, safety and economic wellbeing of millions of families and communities in California.

We are grateful for our partnerships with foundations and finders, which provide key funding for select WPI teams. This year we partnered with the following funders to support our Women’s Policy Institute: Blue Shield of California Foundation, the California Endowment, the California Wellness Foundation, Claire Giannini Fund, the Community Foundation for Monterey County, Edison International, Fondation CHANEL, Fund for Nonviolence, Groundswell Fund, the James Irvine Foundation, Levi Strauss Foundation, Marineau Family Foundation, Peggy and Jack Baskin Foundation, Race Gender and Human Rights Fund, Southwest Airlines, Union Bank, Walter and Elise Haas FUnd, Wells Fargo Foundation, WHH Foundation, YWCA of the Mid-Peninsula Donor Advised Fund and two anonymous institutional partners.
