Investing In Our Feminist Future

We make our way to a feminist future by investing in the folks who know the way.

We mobilize institutional and individual giving towards critical issues affecting women, girls, and gender nonconforming people, especially folks who are from low-income, immigrant, and communities of color.

And we are doubling the size of our grantmaking budget over the next three years.

We Prioritize

PEOPLE

Across our grantmaking strategy, we give priority to organizations led by women, non-binary and transgender people, Black, Native and people of color, low-income women, differently abled, immigrant women based in under-resourced geographic areas in California.

Our Grant Partners

Rebalancing

Who Gets Resourced

Only 1.6% of all philanthropic dollars go specifically to fund issues affecting women and girls. According to Funders for LTBGQ Issues, only 1% of all philanthropic dollars nationally are spent on issues affecting lesbian and transgender women. This wild imbalance in funding requires that grantmaking is core to advancing gender justice across California.

As We
Invest

We Build Power

We invest in progressive, intersectional feminist organizations and efforts along the continuum of power-building, including community organizing, coalition building, policy advocacy, civic participation and voter engagement, and culture change.

We Get Creative

We are excited by organizations that take a creative approach to media and communications to build visibility and support for gender equity and justice.

We Make Connections

We look for opportunities that bridge sectors and movements and that are part of broad-based coalitions advancing gender justice by addressing the root causes of injustice.

Through our Community Power Fund which includes our Anchor Partners, the Culture Change Fund, Relief and Resilience Fund, Alums4Alums, SPI HOME cohort, and we will consider designing a restorative grant program for movement leaders.

We provide flexible funding through general operating support grants. In the rare instances when we offer project-specific funding, we make sure to include in the budget adequate support for general management costs.

We take a trust-based approach to our grantmaking work. We are committed to a streamlined process that tilts towards participatory grantmaking and incorporates the wisdom and perspective of movement leaders and our board members.

This work is powered by you.

The feminist future we are building together in California is going to be built by all of us sharing our time, our money, and our skills.  Please consider contributing today.
