Our Institute’s namesake, Dr. Beatriz María Solís, believed that once we have a sense of power, it can’t be taken away. “When people feel empowered, they see that by lifting their voice or attending a meeting in the community, they belong…” Our Solís Policy Institute and this year’s new state class embodies this very idea.
Each of our 23 fellows – their voices, their ideas, their solutions, their energy – belongs in the halls of power. Together, our SPI fellows create and shape feminist policies that serve communities throughout California in the ways they deserve. Whether it’s dismantling oppressive policies, protecting reproductive rights for all, defending the well-being of domestic workers, or standing up for the humanity, health, and safety of our most vulnerable communities, our Solís Policy Institute fellows shape our feminist future.
This year, we are celebrating over 20 years of our Solís Policy Institute. With 600+ alums and 50+ bills passed into law, we are changing the status quo and transforming California’s future. Every one of our fellows is a changemaker and power-builder. Together, these leaders and the four teams they’ve created will conduct their policy research, draft bills, and connect with legislators to build a better future for all of us.
