Women’s Foundation California Relief and Resilience Fund Featured in Forbes

We are proud to share that the Women’s Foundation of California along with 5 other organizations were featured in Forbes for our work to provide COVID-19 emergency funding.

The Women’s Foundation California has been focused on addressing the spike in domestic abuse through their emergency funding. In April, they notified the 130 domestic violence shelter organizations  across the state informing them that they will be receiving a grant through their Relief and Resilience Fund. “Of the 130 domestic violence organizations we’ve notified, 38 organizations have been granted a total of $380K. Our application process was simplified and only asked for information necessary to process the grant. By early May we plan to get funding to 60 more organizations; by mid May we plan to get $1.45m out the door. By the end of summer, our goal is to give out $5m,” says Surina Khan, CEO of the Women’s Foundation California.

The Foundation hosted a donor call in late April focused on ‘Feminist Leadership During a Pandemic’. ‘There were about 100 people who joined from across the country. Part of what came through most strongly was how the Foundation had already begun providing general operating support to our grantees before ‘shelter in place’ orders were official – we were ahead of the curve in our response. We anticipated that our grant partners would need additional cash aid and resources and began wiring money to them right away with virtually no application process,” says Khan. ‘Hosting the donor call provided us an opportunity not only to highlight the impact of emergency funding but our specific visionary modelling as a feminist organization for the philanthropic sector.'”
