Iris Vara is a Mexican American transgender advocate who serves as Program Assistant at The Transgender District, the world’s first legally recognized district of its kind, based in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood. In her role at The Transgender District, she supports the leadership of the organization with program administration and community engagement. Ms. Vara also holds a background in public health research focused on the healthcare and wellbeing of marginalized communities in the transgender population and her work in community engagement and research coordination has been published in research journals. Ms. Vara likes to go to the beach, shop, watch sci-fi movies, and eat out.
