Janae Sargent

Janae Sargent is the Prevention Education Manager for Lumina Alliance. Born in rural Northern California, she joined Lumina (formerly known as RISE) as a Community Organizer in 2019, where she worked with local youth to advocate for sexual and racial equity in San Luis Obispo County. Currently, she oversees all of Lumina’s Prevention and Education services and works to increase organizational capacity to serve and uplift LGBTQ+, youth and BIPOC voices through training, advocacy and organizational policy. Janae has a background in Journalism and Community Art and is passionate about institutional change to enable anti-violence organizations to root their work in grassroots community expertise. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and is pursuing her Master’s in Social Work at the University of Houston.
