Julia Root is the Senior Workforce Policy Associate for California with the Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO), a nonprofit social enterprise that provides transitional jobs, tailored vocational services and training to people returning home from incarceration. Julia works across CEO’s eight California offices to advocate for increased state and local investment in reentry employment services and for removing unnecessary and overly punitive barriers to employment for people with a criminal conviction. In this role, Julia builds relationships with state and local policymakers and criminal justice and workforce advocates with the goal of expanding reentry employment programs that help people find jobs and build a long-term attachment to the workforce. Previously, Julia was a Research Fellow at The Governance Lab, an action research institute focused on using data and technology to improve the policymaking process and strengthen the ability of public institutions to make better decisions and solve public problems. Julia has an MPA from NYU and a BA from UCSD.
