Bay Area Women Against Rape (BAWAR)
Laura Alberti (she/her) is the Prevention Coordinator at BAWAR, an Oakland-based sexual violence crisis center serving all of Alameda County, CA. In this role, Laura runs the California Department of Public Health funded Rape Prevention and Education Program at a high school in Oakland. This comprehensive sexual violence prevention program incorporates evidence-based healthy relationships curricula, gender-based violence prevention, and response policy development, training for staff and faculty on trauma-informed responses to disclosures of sexual violence, and a peer education program. Laura is passionate about youth advocacy and believes in sexual violence prevention programming that is inclusive, accessible, and responsive to specific communities’ needs. For the past four years, she has developed K-12 educational models and trauma-informed implementations of Title IX and school conduct procedures. Laura holds a B.A. in psychology from Pitzer College of the Claremont Colleges, where she helped develop Pitzer Advocates for Survivors of Sexual Assault.
