Sister Maria Muhammad, a student of Environmental Science, began her journey in food equity, organizing whole food cooperatives for communities stricken by food apartheid since 1996. She has the legacy of generations of those who have loved and nurtured the land both maternally and paternally coursing through her veins. She is the CEO of I Am Green, a 501c3 that reconnects our community back to the planet and each other, and is the VP of Outreach & Programs for the San Diego Urban Sustainability Coalition. Sister Maria’s most favorite things is to facetime with her hilariously precocious 10-year-old grandson, read, be mesmerized by the beauty of the outdoors, and tell random black people that she loves them and that they are beautiful.
