Sylvia Romo is Program & Policy Director for Building Skills Partnership, where she oversees programs to improve job quality for workers in California’s low-wage property service industry. She also leads policy advocacy in the areas of immigrant inclusion and workforce development, currently focused on centering janitorial essential workers in a just & equitable COVID-19 recovery. Sylvia joined BSP in 2014, with 15 years of experience in popular education and human-rights advocacy, including with the Zapatista autonomous education system in Chiapas, Mexico; Center for Justice and Accountability; NISGUA; and the Inter-American Institute for Human Rights. She is the proud daughter of Mexican immigrants, and a lifelong activist. Sylvia holds a BA from UC-Berkeley, and an MA in Latin American Studies from UT-Austin with a concentration in Afro-Latinx and Indigenous Politics.
