To say that we are all spending a lot more time at home feels like a wild understatement. As we continue to shelter-in-place, many of us on the Women’s Foundation California team are finding comfort and connection in the kitchen.
In some ways, we aren’t just feeding ourselves. Across our team, we are taking to the kitchen to provide homeschool chemistry lessons, use up ingredients to clear out the fridge, try out new skills, and give our unstructured weekends a bit of order.
We’ve been cheering each other’s kitchen triumphs over Slack and thought it would be nice to share what we’ve been baking with our broader community. Here are a few of the sweeter treats that we’ve been making over the last few weeks:
- Cookies
- Is there anything more satisfying than cookies fresh out of the oven? Kamika’s been holding down the classics with a peanut butter cookie that delivers. Liza’s kids busted out a few dozen of her family’s chocolate chip oatmeal cookies that go something like this. And Huong put a new twist on things with her tahini chocolate chip cookies with flaky sea salt.
- Chocolate
- Surina polished off some cream in her fridge with these chocolate bourbon truffles. Allison got plant-based food focused with these vegan chocolate muffins.
- Breads
- Whether it’s Kamika’s beer bread or Huong’s soft pretzels or Luisa’s no-knead bread, we are all aboard the bread baking bandwagon!
- Cakes + Tarts
- Nicola went above and beyond with some from-scratch pop tarts (with homemade sprinkles!). We flipped things around with Allison’s cornmeal cranberry upside down cake and Stephanie’s caramel apple upside down cake.
We’ve also been cooking up all sorts of savory delights that we’re likely to share in another round up, but you can’t blame us for having a sweet tooth.
What have you been up to in the kitchen? We’d love for you to share what you’ve been cooking in the comments below.
