OUR SOLíS POLICY INSTITUTE
STATE
- From 2023 – 2024, we saw monumental progress with the signing of three key bills into law—AB 2527 (Criminal Justice Reform), AB 2136 (Health & Prosperity), & AB 2759 (Trauma Services and Prevention)— each is a critical step toward a more equitable future.
- With a renewed focus, SPI opened applications for the new 2024-2025 cohort, introducing the Sheltering Survivors team to advance housing solutions and protections for survivors of gender-based violence.
LOCAL
- After interviewing and listening to our community, SPI Local underwent a regional focus redesign. This new multi-year approach will target and support local policy training for the LA and Inland Empire regions.
2023 Cohort & Expanding Programming
SLI 2023 was a truly remarkable experience, with 28 young fellows gathering in person for the first time at a ranch in beautiful Sonoma.
We maintained and deepened our youth network through virtual Sista Sesh gatherings designed for alum. We hosted six sessions this year, ranging from storytelling in the policy arena to amplifying youth power in the reproductive justice movement.
New Leadership in Youth Program
This year, we welcomed Miyana Evans, a new Program Manager dedicated to youth leadership, signaling our commitment to uplifting the next generation of changemakers.
A RETURN TO IN PERSON
Funders Policy Institute (FPI) returned to in-person programming in May 2024 in Sacramento, attended by 12 passionate advocates who work in philanthropy and supported by partners including Solidaire Network and the Levi Strauss Foundation.
