What Was Erased— and What We’re Reclaiming - Women's Foundation California

Last week, Women’s Foundation California had the honor of hosting a powerful evening at the Getty House alongside Mayor Karen Bass to launch and preview Erased: What American Patriarchy Has Hidden from Us, the groundbreaking new book by our Board Member, Dr. Anna Malaika Tubbs.

We gathered to celebrate Dr. Tubbs’s extraordinary work, which reveals the deliberate erasure of women—especially Black women—from the dominant narratives, policies, and power structures that have shaped the United States. The evening was made even more impactful by an inspiring conversation between Dr. Tubbs and journalist and author Elaine Welteroth, whose conversation brought to life the urgency and brilliance of Erased. As Dr. Tubbs describes “This is the go to book about American patriarchy so we can stop being surprised and finally do something about it.”

We are deeply grateful to Mayor Karen Bass for opening her home, and to our co-hosts and community for helping bring this gathering to life.

This work resonates deeply with our mission at Women’s Foundation California. And we are especially excited to have Erased as a part of our Subversive Pages Collective book club, where we come together to read, reflect and build power through storytelling. Erasure is strategic, but so is remembrance. So is organizing. So is building systems that center the people most impacted by injustice.

We invite you to join us in this ongoing conversation, join our book club, and pre-order Erased. Share your reflections. And most importantly, continue working with us to build a feminist future grounded in racial, economic, environmental, and gender justice.

This work is powered by you.

The feminist future we are building together in California is going to be built by all of us sharing our time, our money, and our skills.  Please consider contributing today.

Together We Are Unstoppable.
