If you’re a billionaire… why are you a billionaire? - Women's Foundation California

A couple weeks ago, while accepting her WSJ Music Innovator award, Billie Eilish looked out at a room filled with the robber barons of our time and asked, “If you’re a billionaire… why are you a billionaire?”

Yes. Why indeed are billionaires extracting and hoarding wealth while our communities are fighting for food, housing, healthcare, climate action, and dignity?

Fortune recently shared that the 10 richest white male American billionaires got $698 billion richer this year – while reporting on Oxfam’s latest study which has revealed again why wealth inequality is getting worse, and who continues to pay the price.

At Women’s Foundation California, we know wealth redistribution is a feminist act—and we love a both/and approach to financial activism and investing in the future our communities deserve.

By donating stocks, securities, or IRA distributions, we can both divest from billionaires and invest in a feminist future where our communities are healthy, safe, and thriving.

When you give to WFC through your IRA, stocks, or securities, you:

  • Invest in the long-term work of transforming unjust systems

  • Fund gender-expansive and women-led grant partners building community wealth now

  • Promote a multiracial feminist democracy and a California that works for all

Together, in solidarity with feminist movements for racial, economic, environmental, and gender justice, we will confront and dismantle the interlocking systems of white supremacy, patriarchy, and racial capitalism that hoard wealth for the few and threaten us all.

This work is powered by you.

The feminist future we are building together in California is going to be built by all of us sharing our time, our money, and our skills.  Please consider contributing today.

Together We Are Unstoppable.
