Last week in Sonoma County, at our 2025 Summer Leadership Institute, I got to celebrate my 69th birthday surrounded by old trees and young feminist leaders. I came home to LA with my heart full–of hope, awe, and deep gratitude.
We welcomed 25 brilliant young feminists into a space of visioning, organizing, and deep collective care. These young people are already shaping the future—rising leaders refusing to accept the status quo.
In a world still gripped by reproductive injustice, resurgent white supremacy, and relentless attacks on immigrant communities, they are claiming space—and imagining something better.
My son recently reminded me of something I said ten years ago: that I wanted to invest my time and energy in developing young women leaders. Last week, I saw that intention come alive. To witness their clarity, brilliance and joy was a privilege and an honor. You could see it in their eyes, hear it in their voices: how much this space meant to them. I felt how much it changed me.
It brought me back to why we joined the founders of the Women’s Foundation California in the first place: to build a feminist future. We are a multigenerational feminist movement, we have many ways to support that future, including with our financial resources.
For those of us who hold stocks, utilize a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF), or who can give from a retirement account, these valuable gifts are a bold and strategic way to invest in our long term movements today.
Here’s how:
-
Donate appreciated stock Give shares you’ve owned for a while and put more resources directly into the work you care about.
-
Recommend a grant from your Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) If you have a DAF, now’s a powerful moment to channel those dollars into movements building our feminist future.
-
Give directly from your IRA (if you’re 70.5+) This is an impactful and easy way to support our mission. If you’re 73 or older, an IRA gift can also count toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).
Gifts of assets like these are strategic and they amplify our shared values and beliefs. They move more resources, more power, and more potential into the hands of those boldly reimagining power and justice.
If you’re ready to invest in this work—boldly, strategically, and with care—will you join me in investing in the next generation by making a non-cash gift today? This is how we build a feminist future. Together.
With gratitude for our intergenerational community
