We are moving money. We are shifting priorities. We are creating a California where the laws and budgets reflect who we are and who we want to be.
This election season in Los Angeles a powerhouse coalition of community organizations and individuals organized alongside voters to pass Measure J. This historic initiative generates $1 billion dollars for direct community investment and alternatives to incarceration by reallocating 10% of the county budget.
At the helm of this groundbreaking victory were three Women’s Policy Institute alum: Eunisses Hernandez, Co-Executive Director at La Defensa, Ivette Alé, Co-Coordinator at CURB, and Diana Zúñiga, Associate Director of Regional Collaboration (East LA/Southeast LA) for the LA County Department of Health Services’ Whole Person Care Initiative. Through our grantmaking and training programs, we invested in Eunisses, Ivette, and Diana and we are going to keep investing in community leaders like them who are reshaping our neighborhoods, our cities, and our state. Now, we are asking you to invest in Women’s Foundation California and our feminist future.
Will you move money and make history with us?
We are asking you to donate today to support the kind of change and leadership that makes wins like Measure J possible.
Eunisses said herself, “Measure J is going to change the whole country” and she should know she is making history by redirecting funding for the largest jail system in the U.S. back into the community.
Together, we will build a California that centers racial, economic, and gender justice – a California that prioritizes the care and well being of the community in its words and its actions, its laws and its budgets. We’re building this California together action by action, policy by policy, dollar by dollar.
With gratitude,
