Did you know the most powerful local government body in the country is now run by womxn?!
This month state Senator Holly J. Mitchell won her election bid to join the L.A. County Board of Supervisors. With her win, for the first time in history, the board is all women. This marks a new era of feminist leadership in Los Angeles that oversees a $35 billion dollar budget and controls the funding for the largest jail in the U.S. and one of most extensive public health systems. A Black woman with a powerful policy record and a strong moral compass, we’re excited for what’s possible with Supervisor-elect Mitchell in charge.
Let’s celebrate Supervisor-elect Holly Mitchell and this historic win. Women are officially at the helm of L.A. County’s Board of Supervisors.

At Women’s Foundation California, we’ve worked side-by-side with Senator Mitchell for years. She has authored eight bills put forward by Women’s Policy Institute Alum and currently co-chairs our Funders Policy Institute and serves on our board. She is a stand out leader who tirelessly advances racial, economic, and gender justice.
