Sofia Bastida is a DACA recipient committed to fighting for underrepresented communities. She studied Political Science and English at Washington State University, where she became active with The Crimson Group, a group of undocumented students fighting for immigrant rights. This student group sparked an interest for community organizing and became the reason for a deep commitment to immigrant communities. Before moving to California, Sofia spent summers educating orchard managers on best practices to protect their employees from possible ICE raids. Sofia moved to California in October of 2019 joining a nonprofit centered on women’s leadership, advancing health and safety of domestic workers and immigrant rights. Now, Sofia is the Civic Engagement Organizer with People Organizing to Demand Environmental and Economic Rights (PODER) where she works with a team of promotoras to educate community members of their language and immigrant rights, amongst other work centered around environmental justice.
