Tracee Porter is dedicated to abolishing carceral systems and promoting justice for marginalized communities. Growing up in Los Angeles, she witnessed the devastating impact of the crack cocaine epidemic and the war on drugs. In 1999, she was wrongfully convicted of a crime, shaping her understanding of how policies harm marginalized communities. For 17 years, Tracee has been a cab driver, engaging her passengers in conversations about progressive politics. In 2022, she earned her BA in Africana Studies from California State University, Northridge, further fueling her advocacy work. She also participated in the Progressive Campaign Leadership Academy, gaining valuable insights into grassroots campaigns. Now, as the Lived Experience Expert for the Social Impact Center, Tracee uses her experiences to create programs for systems-impacted individuals. Because of laws like SB 731, her record was expunged after 25 years. Her motto is, “Your future is greater than your past.”
