Q3 2022 Impact - Women's Foundation California

2 years

Anniversary of Bea Solís

Two years after her passing, we are forever indebted to Dr. Beatriz María Solís and her family who created the endowment that supports our Solís Policy Institute’s changemaking work. This year we opened a new round of applications for our Solís Policy Institute Local Program. This class will be part of a wave of change that has trained over 600 policy fellows and changed the legal landscape of California.

40,000

people reached

Here’s to growing our community! This year, we’ve worked hard to make sure our social media platform reflects our values and dreams for our feminist future. This quarter we hit a milestone, with individual posts that organically reached over 40,000+ people.

100

organizations

As Roe v. Wade hangs in the balance, this moment, for many of us, demands more. It demands our attention, our stories. We proudly support people who’ve had abortions, people who provide abortions, people who fund abortions, and people who advocate to liberate abortion access everywhere. This year, we joined the Campaign to Liberate Abortion, a coalition of more than 100 organizations committed to building a groundswell of support for abortion access across the United States.

90 years

Yuri Kochiyama's Legacy

Yuri Kochiyama’s life as a political and feminist activist and champion for racial solidarity. On International Women’s Day, we celebrated with a virtual conversation with Akemi Kochiyama and next-generation intersectional activists, organizers, educators, and leaders. Listen to an interview with Akemi Kochiyama, granddaughter of American civil rights activist, Yuri Kochiyama, the lifelong champion of civil rights causes in Black, Latino, Native American, and Asian-American communities.

Financial Workshops

Both political and personal, growing the financial savvy and economic literacy of women of color and gender expansive folks encourages a feminist financial future where Black, Indigenous, and people of color are prosperous and thriving. That’s why, we hosted financial education webinars on topics from investing fundamentals, to homebuying basics, to credit and debit 101.

43

grants

In just the first few months of 2022, we made 43 grants totaling over $1M thanks to the Continuum, our monthly donor program, and the overall generosity of our community. Together, our work to support the long arc of change is made possible! Our collective efforts are helping to resource organizations led by women, girls, and gender expansive people of color who are putting an end to domestic violence, funding comprehensive transgender healthcare policy, and incubating the next round of innovative food businesses. Check out the full list of grant partners across our work together.

New Team Members

We are excited to be growing our team in 2022! In an organization that is proudly queer, deeply feminist, and led by people of color who have skills and know-how to share, we were proud to add two new members to our team: Raquel Stratton our  Development and Database Coordinator, and Executive Administrator, Ally DeArman. We are also in the process of adding a Director of People + Experience. We know they’re out there and the right person will help curate our vibrant culture that celebrates diversity, thrives on teamwork, and appreciates everyone’s contributions. Stay tuned!
