We are celebrating the victory of Proposition 1 with our fullest joy as we write abortion access into our California constitution.
This is a victory for reproductive justice, for bodily autonomy, and the power of community organizing. While we know that everything is not okay, we refuse to let that steal away our power or dampen our joy. We celebrate this and every hard-fought win.
We recognize the longtime and new civic engagement grant partners who turned out communities to vote for Prop 1. We know these folks will write the next chapter of California’s reproductive justice story.

With this victory, we are reminded that what we are nourishing in ourselves and each other is fueled by a clear vision, a grounded sense of purpose, and a commitment to joy. Together, we are building an intersectional feminist future that is irresistible.
People can dismiss this Proposition 1 victory and say that “California is different,” but part of why California is different is because of Women’s Foundation California and how we do what we do. We partner with our community for the long term, we invest in infrastructure building, we support deep relationship building, all while centering and lifting BIPOC leadership. Our community has changed the legal and cultural landscape of California and we’ve done this on purpose; change is part of who and why we are.
Let’s keep changing, let’s keep winning.
