An Attitude of Gratitude
We started 2021 in the strongest financial position in the organization’s history. We could not be more grateful for the generosity practiced across our community that made this possible.
We do this work together.
Black Women and Radical Acts of Mothering
We celebrated and recognized generations of Black women trailblazing and organizing with authors and activists Anna Malaika Tubbs and Alicia Garza. Anna and Alicia were joined by Nourbese Flint from Black Women for Wellness – a Women’s Foundation California grant partner. The best attended online event of the year brought folks together to honor Black women and invest in Black futures.
Together We Are Greater
We ignited the generosity of this dynamic and expansive community of feminists with the launch of The Continuum this March. We grew our Continuum membership by nearly 500%.
Continuum members are strengthening their commitment to our shared feminist future and building the long arc of change.
Goodbye Office, Hello Generosity
We’re committed to creating the future of a feminist workforce. Generosity and adaptability were at the center of our decision to let go of our downtown Oakland office headquarters. This choice frees up more grantmaking funds to invest into the field. We are now a fully-remote team with a 4-day work week and flexible schedule designed to center the wellness of our team.
Changing Culture
Brought together by the brilliant minds at the Big We, our Culture Shift 101 sparked new learnings. This four-part series explored the potency of story, the power of creativity, and the practice of leveraging culture for comprehensive social transformation.
Investing in Black Excellence
We invested an additional $300,000 in Black-led organizations across the state working on everything from postpartum support for Black mothers to food justice. We know that investing in Black organizing builds community power and advances our shared liberation.
Even in these unprecedented times our 46 Women’s Policy Institute fellows are transforming California’s policy landscape.
Whether they are championing new bills, strategizing via Zoom, or adapting to a tumultuous political landscape, our WPI are building our feminist future.
New Year New Class
Meeting The Moment
The violence and hate towards Asian and Asian American communities continues to weigh heavy on our hearts. Join us in investing in Asian-led organizations building a future were we all can thrive.
We know that one guilty verdict is not justice. Justice looks like a world where Black Lives Matter.
We are still seeking justice.
Creating Healing Community
California Women Rising adapted in the face of pandemic realities. A flourishing series of online gatherings became a space were young women and genderqueer Californians working towards social justice can connect, and create community.
These monthly, one-hour sessions centered wellbeing with sound healers, financial planners, and yoga practitioners.
WHAT’S NEXT
In 2021, we’ve already advanced the work of the Women’s Foundation California in new and bold directions. We are looking forward to building what comes next:
- Growing our Relief and Resilience Fund
- Expanding our team
- Amplifying our Kiskadee podcast
Together we will celebrate the small triumphs and significant victories.
Let’s breathe deeply and act bravely.
