Today, as flags rise and fireworks fly, we remember that this country was built on protest—and the truest form of patriotism has never been blind obedience, but radical reimagining. This 4th of July, we are not here to celebrate a nation built on stolen land and broken promises. We are here to declare: we still believe in something better.
While the House advances what they’re branding the “One Big Beautiful Bill”—a sprawling package that includes $155 billion for border militarization and immigration enforcement—it’s not a moment for celebration, but for defiance. This bill means more masked ICE and Border Patrol agents. More detention centers. More family separations. More kidnappings.
That’s $155 billion for walls, cages, and the machinery of disappearance.
And that’s just one piece of it.
This is not safety. It’s state-sanctioned violence, dressed up as justice.
But we know another United States of America is possible.
The feminist future we are building does not depend on permission from Congress or crumbs from billionaires. It lives in the way we choose each other now. It grows every time we share a meal, raise our voices, love louder, and demand a world where no one is disposable.
So today, if you’re gathering in the sun, do it in resistance. Share food with your neighbors. Laugh with someone you love. Tell the truth. Tip your delivery drivers. Fill a friend’s cup. Hold someone close who makes you feel free.
We are not celebrating a country of cages and corporate rule—we are celebrating the seed of abolition already planted in our daily lives.
Today we are choosing to live, here and now, like we are already in the world we are fighting for.
