INVEST
Deep power building is the result of generations of freedom fighters, visionaries, organizers, and supporters who believed in and backed their movements for change. With a focus on meeting partner needs and community well-being, we disbursed nearly 200 grants amounting to over $5.5 million.
OUR INTERSECTIONAL APPROACH
Our work is guided by a multifaceted approach that addresses critical issues at the intersection of gender, race, and economics. Whether it’s safeguarding the rights of California’s domestic workers, investing in criminal justice reform, or resourcing organizations committed to reclaiming ancestral lands for Indigenous communities, our commitment is to ensure the health, safety, and prosperity of all.
TRAIN
We believe those closest to systemic problems are best equipped to develop and create the solutions we need. This grounding principle serves as the foundation of our training programs: the Solís Policy Institute, the Summer Leadership Institute, and the Funders Policy Institute.
CONNECT
As a community-supported public foundation, we know that together we can do more. With our events and convenings, we bring together organizers, policy movers, grantmakers, and power builders from across the state to spark new connections, strengthen networks, and build community.

Proudly supported the California Future of Abortion Council during their inaugural year as they successfully turned 15 policy recommendations into law and secured over $200 million in budget investments to expand access to abortion and sexual and reproductive health care.
California Gender Justice
Funders Network
Founded in 2017 following the 2016 election, WFC started the California Gender Justice Funders Network. In 2023, we galvanized funders and donors to learn, respond, and strategize following the overturning of Roe v Wade to support building reproductive freedom in California and beyond.
People Behind the Work
We value a diverse and inclusive workplace and strongly encourage people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, trans people, gender nonconforming individuals, and formerly incarcerated people to apply to join our team.
FINANCE
Stewarding Resources for a Common Purpose
Guided by feminist funding principles, our commitment is to provide enduring, sustainable financial support that encompasses administrative costs, flexibility, and multiyear durations. We prioritize transparency and accountability in our grantmaking processes, ensuring simplicity and learning-focused reporting.
LOOKING AHEAD
To plant seeds of justice and help generations of women, women of color, and gender-expansive grassroots leaders in California flourish and thrive, we must nourish the soil from which grassroots leaders draw their strength. As a leader in feminist funding, advocacy, and generating power for racial, economic, and gender justice, Women’s Foundation California nurtures visionary community-based leaders and organizations across generations.
Our Campaign for a Feminist Future mobilizes near-term, long-term, and everlasting investments to ensure our movements have not only the resources, but also the trust and the time required to transform our world.
