Disappointed, but not Defeated

We wanted to see a Black womxn continue to represent our state in the Senate and we organized accordingly.

Ultimately, Governor Newsom appointed Alex Padilla to Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’ Senate seat. We are disappointed that the Governor chose not to follow the leadership of hundreds of Black womxn and feminist leaders like Dolores Huerta, Alicia Garza, and Alfre Woodard.

We are disappointed, but we are not defeated. We will continue to invest in, train, and connect Black, brown, and indigenous womxn, because we know that’s what is needed. We will advance feminist policy that furthers racial, economic, and gender justice, because we know that is what we deserve.

There have been 1,984 members of the U.S. Senate and right now, only twenty six of them are women and only four are women of color. We have important work ahead of us and we want you by our side.
