This Is What Survivor-Centered Policy Looks Like—Support AB 878 - Women's Foundation California

The Sheltering Survivors team—our fierce SPI-State leaders—have been moving AB 878 with brilliance and grit from day one. This bill is simple, powerful, and long overdue: it ensures survivors of violence can request basic safety accommodations from their landlords—things like installing a doorbell camera, changing a parking spot, or transferring units—without retaliation.

Right now, the team and partners are doing the hard behind-the-scenes work to make sure this bill makes it out of the Senate and to the Governor’s desk. While they wield the pen, we need to bring the pressure.

Here’s what you can do today:

This isn’t just a policy fight. It’s about safety, dignity, and the right to live without fear. It’s about making sure survivors don’t have to choose between staying safe and staying housed. AB 878 fills a critical gap in California housing law. It affirms what we already know: survivors are experts in their own safety—and they deserve tools, not barriers.

Every letter counts. Every share matters. Every act of solidarity gets us closer.

Let’s get loud. Let’s get visible. Let’s get AB 878 passed.

Survivors are counting on us—submit your letters to the Senate Judiciary and Appropriations Committees using these quick templates and help push AB 878 forward.

This work is powered by you.

The feminist future we are building together in California is going to be built by all of us sharing our time, our money, and our skills.  Please consider contributing today.
